What is WebP? 

WebP is a modern image format that provides superior lossless and lossy compression for images on the web. Using WebP, web developers and designers can create smaller, richer images that make the web faster. WebP supports lossless transparency (also known as alpha channel) with just 22% additional bytes. WebP lossy images are 25-34% smaller than comparable JPEG images at equivalent SSIM quality index. The WebP format was developed by Google and is now supported by many modern browsers, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge. To use WebP images on a website, you can either serve them directly to supported browsers or use a polyfill to add support for other browsers.

WebP files can now be opened, edited, and saved in Photoshop 23.2 without the need for any additional plug-ins or settings. To open a WebP file in Photoshop, simply select and open it like any other supported file. You can also create new WebP files within Photoshop and edit them, and then save your changes by using the "Save a Copy" or "Save As" options and selecting "WebP" from the drop-down menu for the file format.
